Dreaming
Last night I said goodbye,
In the nicest possible way,
To a man I never quite met,
But loved so anyway.
Now I am lost at sea,
Adrift in the ocean
between you and me.
There is water everywhere,
It pools in my eyes,
Makes my skin hard to wear.
My moorings slipped away,
No harbor for me,
No sheltering bay.
Searching for driftwood to keep me afloat
In this vast expanse of loneliness.
You were my lifeboat.
If my dreams don’t lead to your arms,
Our tenuous link severed,
your love no longer keeping me from harm,
There is no point in dreaming,
Of waves gleaming,
Of sunlight beaming,
lost in the depths of your watery home,
where you rule your realm and made me your own.
